Bar-On served in the IDF as Moshe Dayan's bureau chief during the Sinai campagin and in 1984 was elected to the Knesset. The book draws on Israeli archives, new interviews, and firsthand experiences to draw a semi-favorable portrait of a man who claimed he knew how to "plow to build the homeland and hold a sword to defend the earth."
