On June 27, 2005, the American Enterprise Institute sponsored a panel discussion entitled “After the Gaza Disengagement: Establishing Defensible Borders for Israel.” It is essential viewing and reading.
The presenters were former Israeli U.N. Ambassador Dore Gold and former Chief of Assessment for Israeli Military Intelligence Major General Yaakov Amidror (Res.), with discussants Scott Lasensky (Senior Research Analyst and Middle East specialist at the United States Institute of Peace); U.S. Army General John Foss (Ret.), who as commander of the 82nd Airborne Division served as commander of the Multinational Force of Observers organization in the Sinai; and Richard Perle. (Full speaker biographies are here).
It is an extraordinary discussion, with important charts prepared by Gold and very candid comments by Generals Amidror and Foss, followed by more than a half hour of equally extraordinary questions and answers from people such as Frank Gaffney and Ben Wattenberg. This is really an important presentation. Watch and listen to the video (preferably) or read the transcript with Gold's charts in hand.
